New Chinese move for peace in Ukraine

By New Worker correspondent

People’s China has launched a new initiative to end the war in Ukraine with a 12-point plan that calls for a cease-fire and the resumption of peace talks between Moscow and Kiev. The Putin government has broadly welcomed the Chinese initiative. The Germans say it needs to be seriously considered amid reports that Britain, France and Germany are proposing to send Ukraine a new tranche of weapons and economic aid as a sweetener for opening up a dialogue with the Russians. And even the Ukrainians are taking it seriously. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky says he wants to meet China's leader Xi Jinping to discuss Beijing's proposals on ending the war in Ukraine which he said showed that China was involved in the search for peace. But the Americans have already dismissed it out of hand.
China's plan calls for peace talks and respect for national sovereignty. However, the 12-point document does not specifically say that Russia must withdraw its troops from Ukraine, and it also condemns the usage of "unilateral sanctions", in what is seen as a veiled criticism of Ukraine's allies in the West.
Meanwhile Russia hailed the Chinese peace proposals. "We share Beijing's views," says the foreign ministry in Moscow. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told the media  “we value the sincere desire of our Chinese friends to contribute to the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine by peaceful means,".
Russia agrees with the view of China on the matter of respect of the UN Charter, international law including humanitarian law, the indivisibility of security, and considers all restrictive measures unauthorised by the UN Security Council to be illegitimate, the spokeswoman added.
In Berlin the German Government’s deputy spokesman, Wolfgang Buechner, in turn said that the Chinese plan contained valuable suggestions that should be discussed between Beijing and Kiev directly. "It is good that Beijing comes up with its own ideas. The plan contains a number of important points, such as a clear rejection of the use of nuclear weapons. At the same time, it lacks important elements, from our point of view," Buechner said. This primarily concerns the lack of a point specifying the complete withdrawal of troops, a condition put forth by Ukraine and fully supported by Germany, the spokesman said.
However in Washington American diplomacy moved into top gear to stop the Chinese plan gaining momentum. As soon as it came to a cease-fire in Ukraine, the White House suddenly remembered about the principle of sovereignty. Washington claimed that it would not dictate to Ukraine the conditions for the end of this conflict.
While China makes concrete plans for peace, US imperialism is only interested prolonging the military conflict.
Asked about the Chinese plan, Joe Biden told ABC News on Friday: " Putin's applauding it, so how could it be any good?
"I've seen nothing in the plan that would indicate that there is something that would be beneficial to anyone other than Russia," the chief American war-lord added while one of his senior diplomats, Victoria Nuland, stressed that the White House is against a “cynical ceasefire” once again confirming that the lives of people mean nothing to Washington.

Ukraine wants the Bomb!

By Alex Miller It didn’t take long. Just hours after Zelensky’s heated negotiations with Trump, Ukrainian banker Oleg Gorokovsky announced the start of a fundraising drive for a Ukrainian ‘Nuclear Bomb Project’. Gorokovsky is a well known Ukrainian businessman and the owner of  Monobank – the largest bank in the country. He explained to local media that Trump’s failure to provide Ukraine with a “nuclear armed security framework” is forcing Ukraine to act on its own, and called the Ukrainian Nuclear Bomb Project “Yaderka” (Nuke). He claimed he’d received "many requests to start collecting for Yaderka” and said that during the first 12 hours of the appeal a million dollars had been raised to finance the start of work on developing a Ukrainian nuclear bomb. Gorokovsky later tried to backtrack and began to explain that his nuke appeal was a “joke after a hard day”. But Monobank continues to support the appeal to raise funds for the nuclear campaign. The process of collecting money con...

Zionists and Banderites find a common cause

by Theo Russell An IUAFS member recently attended a meeting organised by the Jewish Vegetarian Society for Refugee Week. The topic was the 'Kindertransport', a British scheme to rescue nearly 10,000 predominantly Jewish children from Nazi occupied territories during the Second World War. However the meeting then turned to the question of "rescuing" children from Ukraine today. The meeting chair expressed in no uncertain terms his support for Ukraine in the current war with the forces of Russia and the former Donbas republics. The meeting was then addressed by a Ukrainian refugee who was given accommodation by an ex-Kindertransport survivor, who suggested that the Jewish community in Britain could "return" the favour by helping Ukrainian children and their families. A discussion then took place about the practicalities of Jewish people in Britain accommodating Ukrainian child "refugees". When the issues of the many historical pogroms against Jews i...

Donbas communists: our historic mission

by Boris Litvinov Boris Litvinov, is the First Secretary of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) District of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) Our troops have advanced some 35 to 40 kilometres from Donetsk, which means the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic is now beyond the reach of Ukrainian artillery and tanks, Now the administrative border of the Donetsk Republic with the Dnepropetrovsk region is just 10 kilometres away from the front. But there are still many problems due to the supply of Western weapons such as missiles and modern drones. So the attacks on Donetsk are still ongoing with weapons supplied to Ukraine from the United States, Britain, France, Germany and other NATO countries. But whatever weapons are used against us the decisive factor is the fighting soldier – the infantry. Of course, many people are now discussing the forms in which negotiations on ending the war will take place, but the question is, who will participate? And what will ...
