Britain joins the war in Ukraine

by K Hill While the US has brought about regime change in Ukraine with the Maidan coup in 2014, installing a thinly disguised neo-Nazi government of Banderites and corrupt politicians to loot its resources, sell its land and saddle it with massive debts thanks to dodgy IMF loans, the UK has been heavily involved in the training of their military – now the second largest European army (after Turkey) in NATO.  The UK involvement has involved everything from bringing Ukrainian commanders for "special training" in the UK, Nazi tattoos on show much to the embarrassment of the British media, to the existence of special advisors, in reality SAS and SBS units, to supervise "on the ground" the attacks on Snake Island and Kerch Bridge.  This is the real reason our British press has been so obsessed with these two "targets" over the past two years, despite their lack of strategic importance, because they are great PR and distract the British public from the grim real...

We Need a Unified Struggle Against Imperialism!

Zionist Holocaust backed by the West, aping Hitler. In Ukraine they fund open Nazis. Demonstrate for political prisoners and against child murderers in Palestine and Ukraine! Come and demonstrate outside Downing Street against the government’s support for Zionist Israel, and Banderaite Nazis in Ukraine. Both regimes engage in genocidal ethnic cleansing of populations they want rid of: Palestinians and Russian speakers. Both regimes murder, imprison and torture civilians, including many children, for being born into the ‘wrong’ ethnic group. Genocide is in full swing in Gaza. Israel is shooting civilians in homes and the streets, destroying and bulldozing hospitals, schools, UN refuge facilities, and more. Killing medical staff, patients, children, even babies, stopping incubators causing death and/or bulldozing them under the ruins. More than 20,000 are confirmed dead already, with many thousands more under rubble. Half are children; half Gaza’s population are under 18. Israel’s c...

Britain out of Nato now!

International Ukraine Anti-Fascist Solidarity held a successful 'hybrid' meeting in central London earlier in the month. Speakers from Britain, Ireland, Ukraine, the Russian Federation and Poland spoke on the platform or via Zoom on the topic 'The struggle against Banderite fascism and the future of Ukraine'. This is the contribution from John Maxted from the British No2Nato-No2war campaign. Since its founding, No2Nato has fought hard to establish itself as the home for all sections of the British anti-war movement, regardless of where they identify on the political spectrum. We recognise that it's only by forging a united front that we can truly stand up for international peace and friendship. Perhaps most importantly, we understand that the greatest obstacle to achieving and maintaining that peace is NATO and the aggression it has carried out on multiple fronts. This is why it is our mission to see Britain break free from this organisation, as it is effectively ...

Defend Maxim Goldarb!

The current Ukrainian authorities have unleashed political repression against the left and other opposition parties since last year. Ideological opponents of the current government in Ukraine are awaiting prison or death. We openly and constantly say to the whole world that an oligarchic dictatorship headed by President Zelensky has been established in Ukraine. In one of his recent articles, the leader of our party; Union of Left Forces - For New Socialism, Maxim Goldarb, wrote how all those who disagree with the government are now being declared 'state traitors'; in Ukraine. This article was published in Germany, Spain, Portugal, the USA and many other countries around the world. Just a few weeks after the publication of this article, on October 12  2023, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a search in Maxim Goldarb's Kiev apartment, during which personal belongings and pension savings of Maxim Goldarb's parents were seized, as the punitive authorities coul...

Struggle for Socialism – Struggle for Peace!

by Tatiana Desyatova  The decision to start the special operation of the Russian troops, taken by President Putin came like a thunderstorm out of clear skies for Russian society. The very first days of the war showed that the scale of what is happening goes far beyond not only Russia-Ukraine relations, but also beyond the European continent. It happens on the background of the most desperate struggle in the information sphere and severe economic sanctions.  A considerable number of Russian citizens are experiencing mixed feelings: from patriotism and to radical pacifism with demands for peace here and now. Our task is to analyse what is happening from Marxist-Leninist positions.  We are sincerely convinced that in difficult situations one should first of all look for answers in the ideological legacy of V I Lenin, since its power is so great that it still relevant and up to date. According to Lenin wars can be of different types. The first  is when wars ...

Eyewitness Donbas

Steve Sweeney third from left at the top by New Worker correspondent A video conference was held last week between Steve Sweeney, a reporter for RT News now based in Moscow, and members of International Ukraine Anti Fascist Solidarity (IUAFS) in the UK. Steve was previously International Editor of the Morning Star , and is also a member of IUAFS. He regularly reports from the Donbas and other regions of Ukraine which recently joined the Russian Federation. Steve visited polling stations in Donetsk during the recent elections for local and Duma representatives in the people’s republics which recently joined the Russian Federation, and said they appeared to be open, free and fair. He said he had witnessed "a return to democratic life".  He spoke to an old man who was in tears and said that it was the first time in nine years he'd been able to vote. However the Ukrainian Armed Forces deliberately targeted polling stations, and in one strike two civilians were killed. ...

A disgusting spectacle in Liverpool

a New Worker editorial This year’s TUC annual conference summed up all that is rotten in the British labour movement. The bureaucrats, left-wing posers and the rest of the gravy-trainers were all there in Liverpool to pass the usual platitudes that pass for working class solidarity these days.      Sir Keir Starmer joined the assembled general secretaries for a back-slapping eve of conference dinner but left it to his deputy Angela Rayner to assure the union bureaucracy and the bourgeoisie as a whole that they can sleep soundly in their beds when Starmer gets to Downing Street. The most sickening episode was when delegates voted overwhelmingly for a motion backing the provision of “moral and material aid”, including arms, to the puppet regime in Ukraine.      Moving the motion, Barbara Plant, the president of the GMB, said Ukraine was fighting for its survival in the face of a brutal Russian onslaught and claimed that denying the Ukrainians of the mean...

Together We Win!

Dear Comrades Someone wants to kill you, to rob you, and you will be next! You are being addressed by Derzhava, a Ukrainian political party banned by the neo-Nazi government of Zelensky. Most of the media lies and hides from you the fact that your government openly supports Zelensky's fascists, openly helps neo-Nazis and actually preaches fascism itself, directing efforts to exterminate as many people as possible.  The political scientist Lawrence W Britt outlined 14 signs of fascism: 1 - A strong manifestation of nationalism; 2 – Contempt for human rights; 3 – Search for scape-goats; 4 – The supremacy of the military; 5 – Rampant sexism; 6 – Controlled mass media; 7 – Obsession with national security; 8 – Religion and the ruling elite tied together; 9 – Protection of corporate power; 10 – Suppression of workers' associations; 11 – Disdain for intellectuals and art; 12 – Obsession with crime and punishment; 13 – Rampant cronyism and corruption; 14 – Fraudulent elections. ...

Prisoners of war – in Russia and Ukraine

By Evgeny Glebov Prisoners of war are usually treated according to rank. Officers get better treatment. They can be used as camp supervisors. They can refuse to work at all. But other ranks often end up doing heavy, and sometimes meaningless jobs, poorly fed and treated quite cruelly. The Nazis and the Japanese militarists even carried out hideous experiments on them. POWs have, however, long been treated differently in Russia. In the 18th century Peter the Great set new standards. The Czar understood that they would have to be sent home when war ended . On his orders prisoners were well kept and paid the going rate for their work. Many retained fond memories of their days in captivity. It was the same in Soviet times. For example, there was a separate Main Directorate for Internees and Prisoners of War within the interior ministry (the NKVD) the GUIVP, and not the Gulag. The food standards in the GUIVP were higher than in the Gulag, set at the level of the norms for Soviet worke...

Fighting fascism in Europe!

We support the victory not of Russia, but of the world against resurgent fascism in Europe by Theo Russell I represented the NCP and the International Ukraine Anti-Fascist Solidarity campaign and met comrades and friends at a key-note conference in Moscow on the Ukraine crisis last month. I  joined campaigners from Holland, France, Austria, Italy, Brazil, the Basque Country and India, who overcame the difficulties in travelling to Russia imposed by the imperialist sanctions regime, to meet in the Russian capital for the sixth annual conference of the Red Square-Molotov Club. The Moscow conference which ran from the 23rd to 25th May  included members of Russian parties and Russian experts, Ukrainian political emigrants, and representatives from the Donbas  as well as members of the international peace, communist, socialist, and social democratic movements. The conference was organised by the M.A.R.T. Corp Radio & TV agency and the main topics were the conflict in...

RUSSIAN MISSILES ROCK UKRAINE

by New Worker correspondent The howl of air raid sirens sounds every night as Russian drones and missiles pound strategic targets right throughout Ukraine. Kiev has been rocked by blasts that continued for several hours in an attack on the capital that the local military administration called “exceptional in its density”. And now Ukrainians are rushing to buy iodine pills following a devastating Russian raid on an ammunition depot containing depleted uranium shells that may have released deadly radiation into the atmosphere.      Russia first unleashed its Kinzhal (Dagger) missiles on Ukraine in March. They fly at Mach 10, ten times the speed of sound, and are virtually unstoppable, as the Ukrainians found out for themselves this week when their capital was hit by a wave of these deadly rockets. A radar station and five US-made Patriot air-defence missile systems were destroyed during the 16th May attack. Overall, the Russian missile strike against the Patriot system was ...

No DU shells to Ukraine!

The Kremlin warned Britain of the grave consequences of supplying Ukraine with depleted uranium (DU) shells. Some said this simply meant escalation. Others, the gurus of the bourgeois media who pose as ‘military experts’, told us that they posed no danger to Ukrainian civilians and that, in any case, this was just another empty threat from the Russians who would soon be on their knees following a Ukrainian spring offensive. What none of them foresaw was that the “grave consequences” that would follow would be the taking out of the DU ammo dumps and the possible release of deadly radiation into the air.      That’s exactly what happened when a Ukrainian military depot was totally destroyed by a Russian ballistic missile this week. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says reports that radiation levels have risen in the aftermath of the Russian strike are wrong. Whether deadly gamma rays really were released when the warehouse went up is a matter of indifference to...

Fare Thee Well, James Monroe

by Bernie Holland The ‘Monroe Doctrine’ originated by US President James Monroe in 1823 proclaimed that the whole of the Americas was its own ‘backyard’ and that any intervention by external powers in the politics of the Americas was a potentially hostile act against the USA. During the Cold War this ‘principle’ was extended to enable US imperialism to establish its hegemony over Western Europe and large parts of Africa and Asia. It was during a visit to South Africa by US Foreign Secretary Anthony Blinken that Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor explained it is South Africa that will decide who their allies are and not have their choice of allies dictated to them by the USA. The purpose of Blinken’s visit was to ‘persuade’ South Africa that it should join the ‘democracies’ of the ‘international community’ in a concerted effort to isolate and contain Russia and to join the clamour and outrage against the Russian leadership in what can only be described as an effort towards regime change in...

CHINA MOVES FOR PEACE IN MOSCOW!

By our Eastern European Affairs correspondent Vladimir Putin has endorsed the Chinese peace road-map for Ukraine. But it can be implemented only when West and Kiev are “ready” for it, the Russian president said after talks with his Chinese counterpart in the Kremlin this week.      On Monday, Chinese president Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin held almost five hours of informal talks behind closed doors. President Xi’s visit is his first to Russia since the outbreak of the Ukraine war, and also his first foreign trip since securing an unprecedented third term as China’s head of state.      Putin praised Beijing's 12-point peace plan during a summit with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. The Chinese leader said Beijing continues to strictly adhere to the UN principles over the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, maintaining a balanced position calling on all parties to exercise restraint and a return to negotiations to seek a diplomatic solution to hos...

Escalation fears rise

by our Eastern European Affairs correspondent As Russian forces battle for control of the streets in central Bakhmut waves of Russian rockets and drones hit Kiev and other key Ukrainian cities last week in what the Kremlin says was a reprisal for a deadly Ukrainian commando attack across the border earlier in the month. Meanwhile reports claiming that the Nord Stream pipelines were sabotaged by the Ukrainians have appeared in the American press and security forces say they’ve foiled a plot to kill the pro-Russian leader of Transnistria, a breakaway republic that lies between Moldova and Western Ukraine, that has been under Russian protection since the early 1990s.      Wagner forces, Russia’s ‘foreign legion’, are fighting to root out Ukrainian troops dug in the ruins of Bakhmut with orders to delay the Russian advance for as long as possible regardless of the sacrifice. But the Ukrainian command has been blowing up bridges and pulling out their most experienced units fr...
